I absolutely love Ituen Basi’s Spring 2013 collection. She’s a true artist and her love for her craft shows in every one of her pieces. Last weekend in Kiza, a Nigerian club in Dubai I met one of the funniest people ever. From his crazy April fools’ joke to his witty sayings or his use of the English language, Bala had us in stitches for hours. One of his sayings is definitely appropriate in describing Ituen Basi‘s influence in the African fashion industry “there is a difference between a motor car and a vehicle”.
With her attention to detail and her ability to mix elegance with contemporary design she definitely has her way of making African fabric that was once viewed as un-cool, cool, different and beautiful all at the same time, she is definitely a vehicle in our fashion industry and not a motor car.
I wore some of my new pieces out while on holiday and loved them all. The fabric was designed by her and is her interpretation of her classic Ankara beads, which have become an Ituen Basi staple.
What do you think?
